Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

What better way to start off your reading than with the romantic classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It is impossible not to love this timeless classic novel and who doesn’t love a romance novel that tackles issues such as love, class, and tons of marriage proposals! There is a good reason Jane Austen has a big following even over a century later.

The Great Gatsby

Considered to be one of the greatest American novels The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel that many readers either love or hate with a passion. The novel follows Jay Gatsby and his extravagant parties as he tries to win the love back the love of a former lover with his newfound wealth. While it may not be my favorite novel, I do think it does have a lot to say about the roaring 20’s and that alone makes it worth reading!

The Silent Patient

As a fan of thriller novels, I often saw Alex Michaelides’s The Silent Patient on many lists and finally decided to give it a read. And I was so surprised at the the plot twist that I think about it to this day. Few novels can make a simple story much more than it is that you have to read it twice to understand what you actually just read. This is a must read and one novel that I urge all fans of thrillers to read.

Where the Crawdads Sing

One of the bestselling novels of the late 2010’s and the early 2020’s is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. There is a good chance you have seen this novel or heard of the movie. This novel will move you and maybe even have you crying, that is how good the novel is. It was selected by Reese Witherspoon for her book club and is an incredible debut novel that was well received but was surrounded by controversy.

Nonfiction Books

Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah

Sometimes you need is a book that will make you laugh. And Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah does just that while being a serious memoir. Noah shares his experiences growing up in South Africa during Apartheid as well as writing a love letter to his mom.

I’m Glad My Mom Died

As someone who doesn’t read nonfiction books much, I do find myself reading a few because of great reveiws. That is why I ended up reading I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy and after reading it, I can understand the title of the memoir. McCurdy opens up about being forced to become a child actor and pleasing her mom even by always doing what she wanted. This is a story that will reshape how you think of child actors and that you never really know someone’s story.

Who doesn’t love a good classic novel or a nonfiction book that changes how you think of a celebrity you see on T.V.?
