We are in peak summer season and PEOPLE have released their list of the best books of August 2025. So, keep reading to find out what books they chose as must read for this month!

PEOPLE might not be known for their coverage of books but they do release lists and cover book releases. That gives them some points and I do think the beat person who covers books is a book lover. Because their lists tend to be solid and ones I tend to think highly of.

This list covers books that will be releasing in August. That is dedication and means that someone at PEOPLE is reading these novels. According to the article, there are two people and both of them work in the book department at PEOPLE.

I applaud them for having a book department and will definitely be checking out their articles going forward. Today, we will be looking at the books they chose as the best of August. You can see the full list below!

Best Books of August 2025

People Like Us is a novel about two black authors who take two different book tours. The novel is written by National Book Award winner Jason Mott and it honestly sounds very interesting. I will be adding it to my reading list.

L.A. Women is also about two writers and is inspired by Joan Didion and Eve Babitz. The novel that draws my eye is The Hounding by Xenobe Purvis. Taking place in the 18th century, the villagers believe that the Mansfield sisters are turning into dogs.

If you are like me, then you loved Holes by Louis Sachar. He has returned with his first adult novel about a princess who falls in love with a scribe and it is up to a magician to save the day. As a fan of Sachar and fantasy novels, I will be checking this one out.

PEOPLE’s list of the best books of August 2025 looks great. I will be checking out most of these novels and adding them to my to-read list. Louis Sachar is an obvious choice but I liked every novel on this list and can see why PEOPLE recommended them. What books caught your eye? Happy reading!
