7 Books That Everyone Should Read At Least Once in Their Lives
- The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
- The Giver by Lois Lowry
- The Hunger Games by Suzzane Collins
- Dune by Frank Herbert
- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
- The Odyssey by Homer
- Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
The Outsiders
The Outsiders is a classic novel that everyone should read at lease once in their lives. It is the first novel that piqued my interest and I ended up reading ahead of the assigned reading. It is a great novel for young adults and for teenagers who might not have found a book that speaks to them. It still amazes me that S. E. Hinton was only 15 when she started writing this novel.
The Giver

The novel that changed the core audience of dystopian novel is The Giver. It is about a society that has no memory of the past except for a few people known as the Receiver of Memory. The citizens don’t have freedom or choice which is determined by the elders to prevent any negative consequences such as war or poverty.
The Hunger Games
If you haven’t read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, then you may be curious as to why it made the list. That’s because it is a great novel that is overshadowed by the blockbuster movies. Collins is a talented writer and once you read the novels, you will come to appreciate them and why this dystopian series garnered a huge following.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Lastly, I wanted to include a novel that many people may know by title but don’t get around to reading it. The Picture of Dorian Gray is a short but elegant story that has resonated with millions of people. The novle was published in 1890 and it has stated relevant ever since. A recent movie adaptation has gotten readers interested in this classic novel again.
The Odyssey
The Odyssey is one of the oldest works of literature that are still widely read around the world. Both of them are ancient Greek epic poems that are divided into 24 books each. The story follows Odysseus, a Greek hero and king of Ithaca and his journey after the Trojan War. These classic poems are considered one of the most important works of the Western world.
