Today, we will be looking at The Washington Post’s 11 best sci-fi and fantasy books of 2024. Does the Washington Post have a good list or is it overrated? Keep reading to find out!
Before we dive into this list, I want to make it known how much I don’t like publications combining fantasy and sci-fi novels in one list. That means less of both on the list whereas you could have made two separate lists and have included more books from both genres.

The list by the Washington Post opted not to go with big names but instead of chose their favorite sci-fi and fantasy novels regardless of popularity. The first novel on the list is about the relationship between a boyfriend/owner and their robot girlfriend. That isn’t your typical sci-fi novel and this list has a lot of novels like this. You can see the full list below!
11 Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books of 2024
- Annie Bot by Sierra Greer
- The Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohamed
- The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo
- The Mars House by Natasha Pulley
- Metal From Heaven by August Clarke
- Ninetails by Sally Wen Mao
- Our by Phillip B. Williams
- The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain by Sofia Samatar
- Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell
- The Tusks of Extinction by Ray Nayler
- The Wings Upon Her Back by Samantha Mills
Other novels on this list are about fairies, foxes, Mars, and spaceships. There are endless tropes and mythologies that can be tapped and that is why fantasy and sci-fi novels are always interesting. This list by the Washington Post is different than your typical list and has a bunch of novels that I can’t wait to read. Happy reading!
