With 2024 officially behind us, we can now look at the most read books of 2024 and see what everyone was reading. So, keep reading to find out what books were the most read!

Websites like Goodreads make it easy to track what readers are reading and what books are trending. We often look at the most read books of the week but now that 2024 has wrapped up, we can look back and see what books were the most popular with Goodreads members!

Many people would guess that Fourth Wing was the most read book of 2024 and I wouldnt’t blame them. It was the second most read book of the year, trailing The Women by Kristin Hannah.

One of the benefits of releasing early in the year is that you have a the rest of the year for readers to discover your book. That benefited Hannah a lot and her novel never really read the bestselling lists. You can see the full list below!

After the Women, the next three books are all romantasy novels. Nine of the 20 books on this list are romantasy novels and all of the authors are women. Sarah J. Maas has 7 books on this list and was in high demand as readers couldn’t get enough of her books.

And with Onyx Storm, the third book in The Empyrean series, releasing in late January, even more romantasy books will make the list in 2025.

Besides Maas, Freida McFadden also had a huge 2024 as she blew up as fans discovered her for the first time. She had 6 books make the list and between her and Maas, they charted 13 books on the list. It makes me wonder which new author readers will discover next year and propel them into stardom.

Conclusion

These are the 20 most read books of 2024 on Goodreads. Romantasy books dominated the list and Maas and McFadden has an incredible year. 2025 should continue their dominance but we will most likely see a new author or two rise in popularity. Happy reading!
