The Morningside by Téa Obreht
Silvia and her mother move into the Morningside after being displace from their home. The island city of Morningside is a luxury building that has been worn down by the weather and it shows. The world is suffering from the effects of climate change and that is a big theme driving this novel.
Silvia discovers her heritage through folk tales she is told and is fascinated by a mysterious woman who also resides in the building. This is a novel about identify and climate change and one that will resonate with many readers. Téa Obreht is a talented writer and this book highlights all of her best qualities.
A Grave Robbery by Deanna Raybourn
Veronica Speedwell and her partner return in the ninth novel about the Victorian-era adventurers. The partners discover what was believed to be a wax mannequin to be a dead woman that has been expertly preserved. If you like Victorian-era novels and detective novels, then you’ll love A Grave Robbery by Deanna Raybourn.
Wandering Stars

In Tommy Orange’s second book, we are given something between a prequel and a sequel. The novel tells the story of a young survivor of the 19th-century massacre of Native Americans. We are told the fate of the Native Americans and what their descendants also went through and events that take place at the present including a shooting.
This novel is a powerful read and it will most likely make you cry and make you feel various emotions. Expect this novel to make many appearances on end of year lists and even former President Barack Obama’s summer reading list.
