Author Rebecca Yarros has announced that the third book in the Empyrean series will be titled Onyx Storm.
Rebecca Yarros Announces Title and Release Date of Third Empyrean Series Book
In a video Yarros shared with Good Morning America!, Yarros announced the title of the book as well as when fans can expect the book to be released.
“Good Morning America! I’m excited to finally announce that the third book in The Empyrean series will be released January 21, 2025,” Yarros said. “I can’t tell you much yet, but I can tell you the title: ‘Onyx Storm.'”
“There will be politics, new adventures, old enemies and of course, dragons,” she adds. “I can’t wait to share more details with you later.”
The Success of the Empyrean Series
Fourth Wing, the first book in the Empyrean series was released in April 2023 and became a New York Times bestseller. That was partly due to the novel going viral on TikTok. The novel introduces us to 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail who is forced to attend battle college and become a dragon rider.
Due to the popularity of Fourth Wing, the sequel Iron Flame was released earlier than expected in November 2023. And it became the fastest selling fantasy novel book of all time in a week.
Fourth Wing TV Show Has Been Greenlit
The popularity of the books has already led to MGM Amazon Studio and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society to buy the TV show rights and develop the show.
Yarros was excited about the TV show being greenlit and has this to say about the decision.
“I’m so humbled and thrilled to announce that FOURTH WING has been optioned and is currently in development for a TV series by Amazon MGM Studios with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society producing,” Yarros writes. “They’re an ABSOLUTELY incredible team, and I can’t wait to see their adaptation of Fourth Wing brought to life! I have all the faith in the world in them!”
“And OMMMMG, I get to executive produce, too! Words can’t portray just how excited I am and how grateful to work with such amazing people!,”Yarros added.
Early 2025 Release Date
The biggest news from this announcement is that fans finally got a release date for the third Empyrean book. The novel will be released on January 21, 2025 and is already available for preorder. And just like Iron Flame, it is most likely to shatter the record for the fastest selling fantasy novel in a week.
Fans have had to wait patiently for this novel and many were expecting a December 2024 release date. This news is the best possible outcome as it isn’t too far away from the original release date that leaked online.
