Bill Gates’s Favorite Books
If you are wondering why you should turn to Bill Gates, then you may not know that he is an avid reader. He reads 50 books a year and has some great book recommendations. Just like former President Barrack Obama, Gates also releases his favorite books every year
Abd this year is no different. Gates has selected some of his favorite reads of the year. They are not your typical bestsellers. Instead, these novels will broaden your horizons and eductate you. You can see the full list below!
Bill Gates’ Holiday Book Recommendations
- The Song of the Cell by Siddhartha Mukherjee
- Not the End of the World by Hannah Ritchie
- Invention and Innovation by Vaclav Smil
The Song of the Cell

“If I had been able to read The Song of the Cell by Siddhartha Mukherjee in school, I might have fallen in love with biology a lot earlier,” Gates writes on his blog post. “He does a terrific job of explaining in clear, accessible language not only how cells work but why they are the foundation of all life.”
Not the End of the World
Hannah Ritchie used to believe—as many environmental activists do—that she was “living through humanity’s most tragic period,” Gates says about the novel. ” But when she started looking at the data, she realized that’s not the case. Things are bad, and they’re worse than they were in the distant past, but on virtually every measure, they’re getting better.”
Invention and Innovation by Vaclav Smil
“Are we living in the most innovative era of human history?,” Gates writes. “A lot of people would say so, but Smil argues otherwise. In fact, he writes, the current era shows ‘unmistakable signs of technical stagnation and slowing advances.’ I don’t agree, but that’s not surprising—having read all 44 of his books and spoken with him several times, I know he’s not as optimistic as I am about the prospects of innovation.”
Conclusion
What I love about Bill Gates book recommendations is that they are surprise picks. Many people will not have read them unless they follow these authors. We all can’t be like Gates and be friends with authors. But we can read these novels and learn a thing or two.
