Different countries read and love different books. Even in the United States, different states and cities read different books. If only there was a way for us to know what The United States of America loved to read. Luckily for us, PBS did an eight-part series and conducted a survey to best answer the question of what Americans favorite books to read are.
In 2018, PBS conducted a survey to find out what are America’s favorite books. In the eight-part series, many different people were interviewed to answer this question. Celebrities, authors, famous Americans and book lovers all across the country were interviewed for the show.
While no list is perfect, this one gives a glimpse of what Americans like to read. You can see the ten most popular books chosen by Americans below.

Ten Favorite Books
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is America’s favorite book to read. The survey asked about 7,200 people what they loved to read and this classic novel received the most votes. The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon came in second and the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling came in at third.
Only one book (or series) was allowed by an author to keep the list varied. A list of 13 literary industry professionals oversaw the process. The books could be from anywhere in the world as long as they were published in English and only fiction works were included.
