It will surprise nobody that Kate is a big fan of Jane Austen. Her bookshelf included titles from Austen such as Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and the classic novel Sense and Sensibility. And a fun fact that we have to share is that there is a character in Sense and Sensibility named Sir John Middleton, who shares the same last name as Kate’s.

Another standout classic novel on Kate’s bookshelf is Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. This is another must read classic from the 1800s and tells you that Kate is a fan of the classics. In this novel, the protagonist shares the same first name as Kate, which is Catherine. Seeing these two classics on her shelf already tells us that we’d be great friends with Kate!

Kate continues the theme with classic authors on her bookshelf with Bleak House by Charles Dickens. This is a Dickens novels that I haven’t read and may have to after seeing it on Kate’s bookshelf. The novel is about the Jarndyce family and a lawsuit that the family has been caught in that has affected the family for generations. Another novel written by Dickens that was spotted by fans of Kate was A Christmas Carol.

Continuing the theme of classics written in the 1800, the next novel on Kate’s bookshelf is Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ by Thomas Hardy. The novel was originally published in the British newspaper The Graphic and tackles heavy themes such as oppressive Victorian moral code, sexual assault, and poverty in rural England.

It is only right for Kate to end this list with yet another classic from the 1800s. If you have read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, then you know why it is on Kate’s bookshelf. The novel was first published in in Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine and has been regarded as a classic ever since.

These are the novels that are some of Kate Middleton’s favorite books to read. The theme is 1800 classics, mostly written by English authors and Oscar Wilde, an Irish poet and playwright. This is most likely intentional because everything Kate does is analyzed. But this is still a great list and a great bookshelf no matter who you are.
