We love taking looks at various lists and seeing what they consider some of the best novels ever written. And today we will be looking at Amazon’s 10 books to read in a lifetime!
I don’t know about you but I love reading lists and seeing where different people and publications rank books. We all know Amazon’s first goal is to sale books but they do have a great record when it comes to books.
This list is from a longer list of 100 books but we will be looking at the first ten books listed by Amazon. And there is no explanation as to how Amazon chose these books. And from looking at the list, there are few indications besides how beloved the books are.
I took it as books that everyone should read and not the best books of all time. We can all agree that 1984 is iconic and that it should be read by everyone. But it is not one of the best books ever written. You can see the full list below!

1984 by George Orwell
A sci-fi novel that has risen to popularity in modern times is 1984 by George Orwell. When some ideas in this sci-fi and dystopian novel came true, people’s interest in the novel rose. The novel touches on issues such as mass surveillance, a controlling regime, and disinformation. Dystopian novels imagine a horrible future and this is one of the novels that has correctly predicted some stuff, making it popular with many readers today as a result.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
A classic children’s novel that children and adults can’t get enough of is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. The story is about Charlie Bucket who lives in poverty with his parents and grandparents. Willy Wonka, owner of a chocolate factory, announces a contest, hiding five golden ticket in chocolate bars and Charlie finds one of these bars and gets to tour Charlie’s chocolate factory.
Dahl was inspired by his own experience as a kid with chocolate companies as a kid in school. In the 1920s, Cadbury and Rowntree were the two largest chocolate makers in England and would try stealing trade secrets by sending spies to the other company’s factories. And now, it has become an iconic children’s book and movie.
A Wrinkle in Time
An experiment goes wrong Meg’s father disappears while working with his fifth dimension of time travel. And Meg and her friends have to rescue him from the forces of evil as they travel to time and space. This classic novel is truly one of a kind and captures the magical elements of reading and why we love to read in our spare time. It is no wonder that A Wrinkle in Time made Amazon’s list!
