Rebecca Yarros’s Peculiar Stars will be published in the U.S. on November 17, 2026, by Montlake. It’s a standalone contemporary romance about Callista Moran, a newly engaged woman who spends roughly 18 months stranded on an island with a sailing crew and her fiancé’s cousin. You can start with this book even if you’ve never read Fourth Wing.
The rescue is the part of the premise that caught my attention. On the island, Callista has time to imagine a life different from the one she’d planned. Once she gets home, she has to decide whether she still wants that life with her family and the press watching.
What is Peculiar Stars about?
Callista Moran is used to arranging her life around what other people need. Her engagement to Darren Knight gives her a future she can picture. Then a cyclone hits during a sailing trip, leaving her on an island with the crew and Darren’s cousin Dominic, a former Army medic. As the months pass, Callista grows closer to Dominic and starts to question how much of her old life she chose for herself.
That family connection gives the slow burn some bite. If Callista and Dominic had met as strangers, they could return home and decide what to do next on their own terms. Here, Darren is part of the life Callista expects to return to, and he’s part of Dominic’s life too. The official synopsis also puts the survivors in the middle of a media frenzy, so they’ll have to make private decisions while other people are already telling their story.
Can Fourth Wing readers start here?
Yes. Peculiar Stars is a standalone set in the contemporary world. For readers who came to Yarros through Violet and Xaden, the familiar draw is a relationship that develops under pressure. The pressure here comes from isolation, family loyalties and the prospect of going home. If you’re looking for the next book in Violet’s story, see our Fourth Wing Book 4 release guide.
Where can you read an excerpt?
People published an excerpt on October 20. It opens in the present day with Callista drifting in and out of consciousness. As she comes around, she starts listing things she still wants to do, including finishing college and seeing the northern lights. That small inventory tells you a lot about what survival means to her. It’s also worth knowing where the excerpt starts if you’d prefer to meet Callista without seeing any of the aftermath first.
When does Peculiar Stars come out, and which editions are listed?
The U.S. release is Tuesday, November 17, 2026. The print options include a standard hardcover and a limited deluxe hardcover with printed edges and endpapers. Brilliance Audio lists an audiobook for the same day, narrated by Audrey Obeyn and Teddy Hamilton.

Is Apple TV adapting Peculiar Stars?
Apple TV secured the rights to develop a series based on the novel, according to July reporting. Yarros is attached as an executive producer through Full Measures Productions. As of November 4, 2026, I found no announced cast or premiere date.
