A haunted doll might sound like the last sister you would want to travel with. In Daryl Gregory’s The Porcelain Sisters, keeping that sister in one piece is what sends the story into motion.

Releasing October 27, 2026, from Tachyon Publications, the book combines supernatural danger, family conflict and dark comedy. Arriving four days before Halloween, it offers an intriguing premise for readers looking to squeeze another horror title into their October reading.

When Does The Porcelain Sisters Come Out?

The Porcelain Sisters publishes on October 27, 2026. Tachyon lists trade paperback and digital editions, while the publisher’s NetGalley listing gives the paperback’s length as 208 pages.

That makes it a relatively short addition to a Halloween reading list. Gregory’s own press kit describes the book as a horror-comedy novella.

What Is The Porcelain Sisters About?

Ruth Winslow is trying to afford the rest of her college education while caring for her sister, Isabel. Their circumstances are unusual: Isabel inhabits a porcelain doll’s body.

When Isabel is badly damaged, the sisters must seek help from La Fabricante, a witch known as the Dollmaker. Their search takes them to Marseille, where repairing Isabel means dealing with a dangerous organization of witches.

According to the synopsis on Gregory’s website, the obstacles include an assassin who cannot be killed, other haunted dolls and demonic animals. The sisters also face questions about their family’s past and the inheritance they hope to claim.

That is enough to establish the stakes without getting into the family revelations described in the promotional material.

Why This Halloween Release Stands Out

The most interesting part of the setup is Isabel’s position within it. She is both the supernatural presence and the person who needs help. A porcelain body can frighten someone while remaining dangerously breakable.

That gives the premise an immediate tension: Ruth’s responsibility to her sister comes with practical problems that ordinary sibling relationships rarely encounter.

Based on the official description, the appeal also lies in the mixture of tones. Witchcraft and physical danger supply the horror, while the sisters’ difficult relationship creates room for comedy. Readers drawn to strange supernatural adventures may find that combination especially appealing.

Who Is Daryl Gregory?

Gregory writes across science fiction, fantasy and horror. His books include Revelator, Spoonbenders and When We Were Real. His novella We Are All Completely Fine won both the World Fantasy Award and the Shirley Jackson Award, according to his official biography.

His website also places The Porcelain Sisters in the world of Harrison Squared and We Are All Completely Fine. That connection gives existing fans another reason to take notice, though it should not be treated as confirmation of a required reading order.

Should You Add It to Your Reading List?

If haunted dolls, troublesome relatives and dangerous witches sound like an appealing combination, The Porcelain Sistersis an October release to consider. Its central hook is easy to appreciate: saving your sister becomes much more complicated when she is made of porcelain.
