Naruto fans have a new manga to look forward to. Masashi Kishimoto is working on Naruto: Shadow Rising, announced during the franchise’s October 10 presentation at New York Comic Con 2026.

The reveal accompanied several other developments, including a four-episode Naruto × Ninkū anime, a worldwide card-game launch, and a message from live-action film director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Masashi Kishimoto Is Drawing Naruto: Shadow Rising

The Japanese-language official announcement identifies the new manga as Naruto: Shadow Rising and confirms that Kishimoto is drawing it.

Its teaser shows the Seventh Hokage’s monument under construction, Naruto holding a Hokage hat, Kakashi smiling, Sasuke, and Sakura with a baby. It ends with Naruto and Sasuke clashing.

These images suggest a story involving the original cast at a later stage in their lives. However, that is an interpretation of the teaser; a detailed synopsis and precise timeline placement remain to be clarified.

The announcement does not provide a publication date or confirm the manga’s length. More information is scheduled for Jump Festa 2027, held December 19–20, 2026.

That makes this an exciting reveal with important questions still open. A teaser can establish mood and characters without explaining the scope of the finished story.

A Four-Episode Naruto × Ninkū Anime Is in Production

The anime announcement brings Naruto together with Ninkū, a manga created by Koji Kiriyama.

According to the official crossover website, Kakashi assigns Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura a mission. Unable to join them, he appoints Naruto acting leader. The trio then becomes lost in another world, where they encounter Fūsuke.

The project consists of four episodes. Kishimoto and Kiriyama are supervising its story, while VIZ identifies Noriyuki Abe and Tetsuya Nishio among the production staff.

This pairing has a personal connection: Kishimoto has credited Ninkū as a major creative influence on Naruto. The crossover offers viewers a chance to explore that relationship through a new adventure.

For fans who enjoy the early Team 7 dynamic, the premise has an obvious appeal. Naruto being trusted with leadership also creates room for the humor, competition, and friendship associated with those characters.

A premiere date and streaming destination are not specified in the announcements reviewed.

What Is Project Rasengan?

VIZ’s New York Comic Con announcement describes Project Rasengan as a multiyear global initiative for Naruto and Boruto.

It brings together developments across manga, anime, games, and other areas of the franchise. It should therefore be understood as a broader roadmap rather than the name of one new anime series.

The same presentation confirmed plans for a worldwide release of Naruto Mobile. Its international release date remains to be announced, and availability may vary by region.

Naruto Card Game Gets a June 2027 Launch Window

The official card-game announcement confirms a simultaneous worldwide launch in June 2027.

VIZ lists Naruto, Sasuke, and Gaara as the leaders featured in the initial starter decks, alongside the first booster set, Enter: Naruto Uzumaki!

This gives fans one concrete release window to mark down, even while the new manga and crossover anime await further scheduling details.

The Live-Action Naruto Movie Also Received an Update

Destin Daniel Cretton sent a message to the panel about the live-action adaptation. He emphasized Naruto’s determination and the care being taken with Kishimoto’s characters and relationships.

His message also referred to a worldwide search for Team 7 that began during summer 2026. The panel’s published recap does not name the selected actors or announce a theatrical release date.

It is a development update, with more information still to come.

Why the Manga Announcement Matters Most for Readers

The most promising possibility is seeing familiar relationships explored from a different stage of life. Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry has always involved competing ideas about belonging, responsibility, and how to change their world. A new story could give those ideas fresh weight.

That remains a possibility rather than a confirmed plot description. For now, the creator’s involvement and the revealed characters give readers plenty to discuss without guessing at an entire storyline.

What Should You Read While Waiting?

New readers can begin with Naruto, Volume 1 and follow the original manga in numbered order. The original series runs through Volume 72, available through VIZ.

Returning readers may prefer to revisit the ending before the next Shadow Rising announcement.

What Happens Next?

The next announced opportunity for follow-up information is Jump Festa 2027 on December 19–20, 2026.

Despite the event’s name, it takes place this December. Until then, fans have a confirmed new manga project, a four-episode crossover in production, and a June 2027 card-game launch to follow.
