Spoiler policy: Spoiler-light; discusses the published premises, not the finale’s ending.

V.E. Schwab’s Villains trilogy has reached its final chapter. Victorious, the third novel following Vicious and Vengeful, was released in the United States on October 6, 2026.

For readers who have been waiting to return to Victor Vale and Eli Ever’s dangerous world, the arrival closes an eight-year gap between novels. Macmillan’s official listing identifies the new book as the conclusion to the series, making this a finale rather than another installment with an open-ended promise of more.

There is one important release-date distinction: the U.S. edition is available, while Titan Books lists October 15, 2026, for its UK hardback edition.

Victorious Has Arrived—But Check Your Edition

The October 6 publication date applies to the U.S. release. Readers buying an imported edition or ordering outside the United States should check the publisher and format before assuming every copy is already available.

Titan Books’ UK listing gives its hardback a later October 15 publication date. That matters for an international readership: “out now” accurately describes the U.S. release without describing every regional edition.

If you are ready to return to the series, check Victorious on Amazon.

Why the Eight-Year Wait Matters

Vengeful was published on September 25, 2018, according to its publisher’s book page. Victorious arrives just over eight years later.

The full series stretches back even further. Vicious debuted in September 2013, meaning the trilogy’s publication history spans approximately thirteen years.

For returning readers, that timeline makes a refresher particularly useful. Remembering the broad rivalry is one thing; remembering where the supporting characters and their loyalties stood at the end of the second book is another.

The arrival also changes the experience for newcomers. Readers who prefer to begin a finished series can now approach these three novels as a complete reading project.

What Is Victorious About?

The U.S. publisher’s synopsis places Victor Vale and Eli Ever’s fractured relationship at the center of the finale. Once friends and later enemies, their conflict now intersects with allies, rivals, and an unexpected opponent shaping the confrontation.

Titan’s longer description adds that EON is changing under a new director. Victor, Sydney, Mitch, and others are drawn toward its headquarters, where unfamiliar alliances and abilities complicate the situation.

Those descriptions suggest a conflict larger than a straightforward rematch between two enemies. That is an interpretation of the announced premise, however, rather than a claim about how the novel ends.

Readers looking for the winner of Victor and Eli’s final confrontation will need to read the book. The release announcement establishes the setup and the trilogy’s conclusion without requiring the ending to be spoiled.

What Makes the Villains Series Different?

The foundation of Villains is a troubling question: what if gaining extraordinary abilities did nothing to make someone a better person?

In the official description of Vicious, Victor and Eli begin as college roommates whose research into near-death experiences becomes a dangerous experiment. Their friendship eventually gives way to a conflict driven by betrayal and incompatible ideas about people with powers.

That premise gives readers a useful way to understand the series. The appeal extends beyond discovering what each character can do. It also comes from questioning what they believe their abilities entitle them to do.

Vengeful expands the struggle with Marcella Riggins, whose own brush with death brings power and an opportunity to seize control. Across the first two books, ambition and revenge make the boundaries between hero and villain increasingly difficult to trust.

For a finale, the interesting question is therefore broader than who survives. It is also whether anyone can escape the patterns of control and retaliation that have shaped the story.

Villains Books in Reading Order

Read the main novels in publication order:

OrderBookOriginal U.S. publication
1ViciousSeptember 24, 2013
2VengefulSeptember 25, 2018
3VictoriousOctober 6, 2026

Start with Vicious if you are new to this world. Moving directly to the finale would skip the relationship and consequences on which its conflict depends.

How Returning Readers Can Catch Up

A complete reread is one option, but Schwab also provides a practical alternative. Her official website links to a YouTube recap of the first two books.

That is a useful starting point if eight years have blurred your memory of the story. Watch it after reading Vicious and Vengeful, since a recap necessarily reveals earlier events.

Before beginning Victorious, refresh Victor and Eli’s history, Sydney and Mitch’s roles, and the aftermath of the second novel. Those connections will provide more context than simply reviewing a list of powers.

Is Victorious the Last Villains Book?

Yes. The publisher identifies Victorious as the conclusion, and Macmillan’s author-tour announcement describes it as the third and final entry.

That gives this release its clearest significance: a long-running story now has its final main novel. For established fans, it is a return to unfinished business. For newcomers, it is the chance to start with the ending already on the shelf.
