Percy Jackson’s world is getting biggerand readers can already explore the first adventure. Rick Riordan’s new Camp Half-Blood series launched with The Wild Zone, co-written with Annabelle Oh, on September 29, 2026. The four-book project turns the spotlight toward other demigods living at the camp.

For fans discovering the news now, the important detail is that this is already a published series launch. The next installment, The Rite of Aphrodite, is scheduled for March 30, 2027.

What Is the New Camp Half-Blood Series?

The series explores an autumn between The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. Percy, Annabeth and Grover are away, giving a new group of campers room to become the heroes of their own story.

In Riordan’s announcement on his website, he describes a standalone adventure spread across four books, with each co-author telling a different character’s perspective. He also says the collaboration involved equal work, compensation and credit.

That approach gives the project an appealing direction. Camp Half-Blood has always felt like a place with more stories than any one hero could experience. Following other campers offers a way to explore that potential without asking Percy to carry every adventure.

What Is The Wild Zone About?

The first novel follows Katie Kim, a newcomer whose introduction to camp takes a dangerous turn. Clarisse, the Ares cabin’s head counselor, takes Katie and other new campers into a forbidden forest area and challenges them to return by morning.

When Katie’s half-brother Grant disappears, the challenge becomes something much more serious. Monsters and a mysterious curse force the remaining newcomers to investigate the Wild Zone’s secrets.

The publisher’s listing for The Wild Zone confirms that the U.S. edition is published by Random House Books for Young Readers, runs 320 pages and is recommended for ages 10–14.

The premise brings the danger close to home. Instead of treating camp as the place heroes leave before the real adventure begins, this story makes its own forbidden territory the source of the mystery.

How Many Camp Half-Blood Books Are Planned?

Four books are planned, each pairing Riordan with a different co-author. Here is the announced lineup:

Publishers Weekly’s announcement identified all four collaborators and described a planned six-month publication rhythm. Penguin Random House’s official series page now lists the second book’s title and March 30 release date.

How the Percy Jackson TV Show Inspired the Books

The latest news adds an interesting detail about the project’s origins. In an October 6 interview with PEOPLE, Riordan explained that discussions about what to do with the television adaptation’s sets between seasons sparked the idea. He began imagining adventures involving campers who stayed year-round, and developed a pitch for both books and television.

The books are real, but a screen adaptation remains a possibility. Riordan previously said Disney+ had optioned the project, while explicitly warning that an option does not guarantee a show will be made.

Do You Need to Read Percy Jackson First?

Riordan says readers can start with The Wild Zone without reading his earlier novels. The series was designed to make sense on its own.

My recommendation for readers who want the broader Percy Jackson experience is still to begin with The Lightning Thief. It introduces the world through Percy’s discovery of it. Readers mainly interested in this new camp mystery, however, have the author’s reassurance that they can begin here.

For longtime fans, the attraction is a different view of a familiar place. A camp full of demigods should have plenty of heroes whose stories remain untold, and this series gives some of them the chance to step forward.

Will you be picking up The Wild Zone, or are you waiting for more of the series to arrive?
