We have been getting a ton of end of year lists but few lists about specific genres. The New York Times decided to switch things up and has released their list of the best historical fiction books of 2025. See reading to find out which books made their list!
I think we are all trying to consume all these lists and make a proper reading list. But it is not easy when there are tons of new lists being released every day. No two lists are exactly the same and now, The New York Times is diving into specific genres.
I love historical fiction novels so I welcome this list. Most lists have listed a few historical fiction books but I want to see all the new historical fiction books worth reading. And The New York Times has delivered. You can see the full list below!

The one historical fiction book that seems to be making every list is The Antidote by Karen Russell. If you aren’t a big of a historical fiction novels, then that is the one book from this list you should read. And if you really enjoy it, you can give the others a try.
I know that there are a bunch of books on this list alone. It’s going to take months just to get through this list but you don’t have to read them all back to back. One of m favorite things about reading is always finding new books to read.And then you will hate yourself for not reading them earlier.
What I love about lists like this is that it provides you with a book recommendation. We all have had moments when we have nothing to read. By adding these books to your to-read list, you have avoided that problem and always have something to look forward to.
Conclusion
With my to-read list higher than a few buildings in New York City, I am going to have to figure out what to do read and when. There are a bunch of books here that I want to read and see why the New York Times chose them. Even if it is two years later, I will be checking a few books off from this list.
