One of the best time to read is when you are traveling. That is when you are waiting and have nothing else to do. And to make sure you do read when traveling to and on an airplane, we have listed 5 must-read books for your journey. Keep reading to find out what books you should read take with you on your next trip!

People often ask me how I am able to read so many books. The secret is that instead of doomscrolling or watching Tik Tok videos, I opt to read a book instead. Breaking bad habits to do what is beneficial for you is not easy. But nothing good comes easy.

Once you do this for a while, you will see the rewards and that will keep you motivated. And one of the best places to read instead of being on your phone is the airplane.

You will be doing a lot of waiting at the airport or on the airplane itself. Which gives you ample time to read a book and maybe even finish it before your flight lands. And we have the perfect books for you to read for these occasions!

5 Must-Read Books for Your Next Airplane Journey

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus book
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

A novel that is perfect to read while traveling is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This is an amazing standalone fantasy novel about magic and love. I really loved this novel and I still think about it to this day.

The circus arrives overnight without anyone noticing. The black and white tents appear almost as if by magic. And inside them are magical experiences that people can only experience at night; the only time it is open. Hidden behind the tent flaps is a competition that goes back many years.

Two magicians, Celia and Marco, have been trained since childhood by their instructors to fight against each other and only one will be left standing (which they don’t know). But they end up falling in love and everyone’s lives hang in the balance on the choice they have to make.

What will they choose and what will be the fallout of their choice? Find out by reading this amazing magical novel!

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

A few years ago, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens was everywhere and it was impossible to avoid. That is probably how me and everyone else ended up reading it. And it was a fantastic read and lived up to the hype surrounding it.

Catherine Danielle Clark, also known as Kya, has lived her whole life living in the marshes. She has seen her family leave one by one but she stayed behind. By age 10, Kya was living all by herself and learned to survive.

Kya grows up isolated and makes few friends but learns how cruel people can be and how even when you choose to live alone, not everyone will leave you alone. She falls in love and has her heart broken. And when she finds someone new, her world is turned upside down.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

A picture of former president Bill Clinton holding The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho in his arm while he was still president led to millions of people discovering this novel. And I am glad because this novel is one of my favorite novels and one I revisit yearly.

Santiago has a dream about a treasure and isn’t sure whether he should give up everything he has and pursue this dream. It is only a dream but he believes it may lead to better things. So he does what we all do when we aren’t sure what to do next; consult a fortune teller. This leads him to a journey where he meets a bunch of people, finds himself and learns a beautiful lesson about life.

This novel is similar to Coelho’s life and that makes you wonder what happened first; the novel or the experience? Coelho may have been inspired by his own journey that was over 500 miles that he walked to Santiago de Conpostela, a site of Catholic pilgrimage in Spain. He has said the walk invoked a spiritual awakening and inspired him to write his first novel, the Pilgrimage. in 1987, a year later, he wrote this novel.

It is hard talking about this book without spoiling it because it is allegory and people will have different interpretations of it. The book has gone on to sell over 35 million copies and is the most translated book in the world by a living author. Originally, the novel had little success but once it was translated to French, it took off.

When you talk about thriller novels, you have to mention The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. It is one of my favorite thrillers and it has one of my favorite plot twists of any novel. And reading this at the airport will make the time fly.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist and is fascinated with Alicia Berenson’s case. She shoots her husband five times and never speaks another word. Everyone is curious why she killed her husband and went silent afterwards.

Her case makes Theo eager to get her to talk and open up about what really happened that night. Theo manages to get assigned to Alicia and tries to connect with her. But his marital life seems to be in trouble and starts to consume him. Can Theo get Alicia to finally talk after all these years and find out what really happened that tragic night?

Mora Seed is the protagonist of the novel and she is unhappy with her life choices. When her cat is found dead outside her home and she is fired from work the next day, Nora decides to kill herself. She feels alone and feels like nobody cares about her.

But after Nora tries to kill herself, she finds herself in a library managed by her school librarian Mrs. Elm. In the library, it is always midnight and time does not move. Mrs. Elm explains to Nora that she can live other lives where she made different decisions which led to different outcomes.

Nora visits other lives where she is a rockstar, a mother, an Olympic swimmer, and almost anything else she can imagine. But she still can’t find a reason to continue living. Mrs. Elm tries to guide Nora to a life where she is happy but Nora has to decide for herself what that is.
