Nothing beats the joy of reading a new book and it surpasses all your expectations. Well, there is one thing that beats that; Rereading that book over and over again. That is why we will be looking at books that I read often throughout the years!

More often than not, I am reading a new book because there are so many new amazing books to read. But sometimes, I will reread a book that I really enjoyed. That is a rare event because I am trying to get through my ever-growing reading list.

I have enjoyed these books a ton and reading them feels like visiting a childhood friend. They are the books that got me into reading. And no matter how many books I read, they will have a special place in my heart. You can see the full list below!

Books I Reread Throughout the Years

Fight Club

Let’s start off the list with one of my all-time favorite novels; Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. I saw the movie first and knew I had to read the book afterwards. And somehow, the book was even better. The book is always better but you know what I mean.

Palahniuk is a fantastic storyteller and Fight Club is as wild a novel as it gets. Unfortunately, this novel has gotten a bad rep over the years because of the people that have come to associate themselves with it. It has a bunch of important commentary that seems to have flown over many people’s heads.

I love reading this book often and love all the plot twists every time. They are perfectly timed and keep the book interesting no matter how many times I read it.

The Alchemist

While Fight Club might be one of my all-time favorite novels, it is not my most read novel. That honor goes to The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. A big reason for that is because every time I read this novel, I take away a new lesson.

What I have come to realize is that this novel can be interpreted in many ways. And a big influencer of that is the age of the reader and what you are going through. That is why I believe it has gone on to sell over a hundred million copies since publication.

And yes, having former president Bill Clinton photographed with it definitely helped. But a book doesn’t sell over a hundred million unless it resonates with readers. All I know is that this novel is a fantastic read and one I can never get enough of.

The Outsiders

The earliest novel that I read that I revisit has to be The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. Some novels stay with you through the rest of your life and that has been true of this novel for me. I love the characters, the plot, and the poetry involved.

Something about this novel resonates with me strongly no matter how old I am. It is still hard to believe that Hinton wrote this novel when she was still in high school. Maybe that’s why she was able to relate to millions of other high schoolers.

It has been a while since I read this book but I will be reading ti soon. This book made me read a bunch of other books by Hinton which I enjoyed a lot. She is an incredible author and is a big reason I got into reading as a teenager.

The Book Thief

I have made my love of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak known on this website often. If I had to choose my favorite book of all time, then it has to be this one without a second thought. Everything about this novel is perfect and I still cry when reading it.

Using Death as the narrator is what seals this book as perfect in my opinion. Even if Death wasn’t the narrator, I would still love this book. But him narrating the book gives it the icing on the cake. I remember having a phase of reading books about World War II and this book was a big reason why.

The Hobbit

As a fan of adventure novels and fantasy novels, it is only fair to revisit the novel that made me fall in love with fantasy novels. The Hobbit and its sequel The Lord of the Rings are must read books in my opinion. No matter how much time has passed, these novels are the epitome of the perfect fantasy novels.

Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, is hosting a party that he had no idea he was going to host. Galdalf the wizard tricks Bilbo to host Thorin Oakenshield and his twelve companions whom are all dwarves.

During the party, Gandalf tells the dwarves that Bilbo should be their “burglar” for the hunt for the dragon Smaug’s guarded treasure. Bilbo decides to tag along despite hobbits not being the adventures type.

As the group enters the wild, they face many challenges. Bilbo and his friends have to navigate across the country with some help from Gandalf. But Gandalf comes and goes as urgent matters call him. Thus, Bilbo must use his wit to survive and not be killed by Goblins or worse.

I love this classic fantasy novel and love revisiting the amazing world that Tolkien built. It is no surprise that many authors have borrowed Tolkien’s format for their own fantasy novels. And no matter how much the genre changes, this novel will always be relevant.

The Bear and the Nightingale

There are some gems that you end up coming across by chance and it changes your whole life. The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Ardin is a beautiful fantasy novel that includes Russian folklore. I don’t know about you but I didn’t know a single Russian folklore before this.

The novel feels magical and it captures all of my favorite things about fantasy novels. The novel follows the adventures of Vasilisa, better known as Vasya, and she can see spirits. She has a premonition of bad events happening and plans to correct them before it is too late.

But Vasya has to escape from her stepmother’s clutches in order to do so. Her stepmother wants to marry her off or confine her in a convent. To protect the ones she loves, Vasya must do things that will go against the norm and turn to powers that she has been told to fear all her life.

Vasya is unlike most kids as she can see spirits. And as she acts out, her father remarries. Her new stepmother is not a fan of old rituals and thus, they are stopped. Vasya senses unease as bad events follow suit. As the spirits lose influence, bad spirits gain power and the destruction of the town looms nearer and nearer.

It is up to Vasya to save the town as well as escape from her stepmother’s clutches. Her stepmother wants to marry her off or confine her in a convent. To protect the ones she loves, Vasya must do things that will go against the norm and turn to powers that she has been told to fear all her life.

Conclusion

These are the books that I read often throughout the years. So far, I haven’t added any new books to the fold because I am trying to make a dent in my to-read list. But I will still make time for these books.

As I start another reading goal, I know I will be reading my favorite books and revisit them again. And hopefully discover even more books that I want to reread down the line. Until next time, happy reading!
