Commentary

Heir was released on October 2024 and went on to be chosen for the Good Morning America YA Book Club. After reading this novel, I can see why it was picked and I will be waiting for the second book in the duology to be released.

There are three main characters and we follow them in this world of magic that Tahir has created. They all have a different relationship with magic and depending on where you are from, your magic varies.

Besides the constant wars going on, there is a murderer on the loose that is killing children. That is one of the driving plots of the novel and I loved how Tahir uses that as an anchor to make the novel come together.

The plot is fresh and original but even more than that, I loved the cast of characters in this book. Sirsha is my favorite because of her wit and that we can all imagine a Sirsha in our lives. Even side characters in this novel like Ra or Quil’s friends are brilliantly written, making it another reason to read this novel.

Conclusion

I chose to read this novel because I heard good things about it. As I am always searching for the next fantasy book to read, I came across this book and I am glad that I read it. Days later, I am still thinking about this book and the amazing dialogue between characters. Few fantasy novels are as good as this and have plot twists coming left and right. Happy reading!
