While many publications are focusing on their end of year lists, they are forgetting that there are still new books being released. Which is why we will be covering four new historical fiction books to check out this month!

While fantasy is my favorite genre, historical fiction has most of my favorite novels. Which is why I am always browsing lists and searching new historical fiction books to read. And this month, there are four historical fiction books that are sure to pique many reader’s interests.

The list is curated by the New York Times and they are one of the few publications that can read and review almost every new book that is released. With how the economy is, few publications have a staff solely dedicated to reading and reviewing books and not at the scale as the New York Times.

We do need to appreciate how lucky we are that we have publications like the New York Times and NPR who do review as much books as possible. We have seen NPR’s budget get cut and that what we took for granted is now under threat from our own government. That’s a discussion for another post though. You can see the full list below!

Four New Historical Fiction Books to Check Out This Month

The Rush

The first novel that caught our eye was The Rush by Beth Lewis. I love reading about the gold rush and this book is set during that time period. This is a great novel as it is informative!

It is 1898 and the novel is set in Canada. Kate is making her way to Yukon after receiving a letter from her sister that her husband plans to kill her. Martha’s livelihood is under threat from a group of locals who want to buy the town. And Ellen is worried about the future as her husband has failed to find the fortune he seemed here.

The three women are tied together by fate when a woman is found murdered. To find the killer, they have to take risks and get involved with dangerous men in a dangerous and unapologetic land.

The Girl in the Green Dress

A big reason why I am a huge fan of historical fiction novels is the different settings each novel offers. In The Girl in the Green Dress by Mariah Fredericks, we travel to the 1920s in America.

Zelda Fitzgerald is bored as her famous husband works on his next novel. Journalist Morris Markey has just arrived to new work and is eager to writer her first big story and Zelda might be the reason why.

Simone in Pieces by Janet Burroway

Our third pick is Simone in Pieces by Janet Burroway, a novel about a Belgian war orphan. Her memories have been damaged from trauma. We follow her from Cambridge to New York City and the United States as she rediscovers her past.

The boom blurb reminds me of A Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I love books that dive into who a person is and what shapes them. Our past, especially our childhood, shapes us to be the adults we are. I know I will be reading this novel in the coming months.

Love, Sex, and Frankenstein by Caroline Lea

With a title like Love, Sex, and Frankenstein, you can’t help but want to learn more about this novel by Caroline Lea. Fans of Frankenstein will love to read this historical fictional novel about the author who wrote the classic novel.

A young 18-year-old Mary Shelley has decided to flee London with her lover, Percy Shelley, and her sister, Claire. They have taken refuge at Lord Byron’s villa. But Mary doesn’t feel safe there nor with the events that have transpired.

An idea forms in her head that leads her to grab her black ink and write. But is she in control of it or is it in control of her. In this retelling of the events that led to one of the most famous works of literature, you will be hooked from the first page!

Conclusion

No matter which book you decide to read from this list, you can’t go wrong. You can choose what time period to escape to and each story is riveting and as good as they come.

I know I will be busy reading these books in the comings months. And who knows, maybe I will find another historical fiction book that I can’t stop talking about. I wouldn’t be surprised because these genre has some of m favorite books of all time.
