What I like about the list is that these books aren’t that well known so many people will not have come across them before. The only novel that I know from this list is Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia because it is often on many lists.

The fact that House of Leaves is on the list makes me question the reliability of these recommendations. The only thing horrifying about that book is the layout. Reading should be pleasurable, not migraine-inducing. And I found the book to be boring.
Check out “The Woman In Black” by Susan Hill, the book, not the movie, movie is great, but the book builds the terror better
There are some good books on the list but I certainly wouldn’t say they are the scariest. Also, not to be a book snob but almost all of these are well known books in the genre. Despite these gripes, these are good horror books filled with creepy, unsettling, and/or disturbing content.
Everyone has their own opinions but these are not the scariest books. There are some good books and some weird books on here, but scary? Nope.

“Totem” by David Morrell. I stayed up all night reading it because I was too scared to turn out my light and try to sleep.
“The Ruins” by Scott B Smith. I haven’t read it yet but I saw the movie and my former manager said the book was amazing and a cult classic.
