Bestselling author R. F. Kuang will be returning in 2025 with a new book called Katabasis and we have everything you need to know about the book here!
Over the past five years, R. F. Kuang made a name for herself and has become one of the most popular authors in that timespan. Poppy Wars was released in 2018 and and two more books followed in the trilogy.
On August 2022, Kuang released Babel, or the Necessity of Violence which debuted at number one on the The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover fiction. And in 2023, Kuang followed up with Yellowface, her first literary fiction book which solidified her as an incredible and talented author.
Now, Kuang plans to release Katabasis on August 28, 2025 under the Harper Voyager imprint. The fantasy novel has yet to be given a book cover but we do have a blurb for it that you can read below!
Katabasis Blurb
Alice Law has only ever had one goal: to become one of the brightest minds in the field of Magick. She has sacrificed everything to make that a reality: her pride, her health, her love life, and most definitely her sanity. All to work with Professor Jacob Grimes at Cambridge, the greatest magician in the world.
That is, until he dies in a magical accident that could possibly be her fault.
Grimes is now in Hell, and she’s going in after him. Because his recommendation could hold her very future in his now incorporeal hands and even death is not going to stop the pursuit of her dreams….
Nor will the fact that her rival, Peter Murdoch, has come to the very same conclusion.
With nothing but the tales of Orpheus and Dante to guide them, enough chalk to draw the Pentagrams necessary for their spells, and the burning desire to make all the academic trauma mean anything, they set off across Hell to save a man they don’t even like.
But Hell is not like the storybooks say, Magick isn’t always the answer, and there’s something in Alice and Peter’s past that could forge them into the perfect allies…or lead to their doom. – Goodreads
Kuang has’t missed with a novel and I expect this to be her best one yet. I loved Babel and this novel feels like it will be going down a similar road. This may be the novel that finally makes Kuang a mainstay on the bestselling lists when it releases in August.
