As you grow up, you realize that many adult books lack elements of magic and are nothing like the fairytales you grew up reading. But there are still some amazing books that capture those elements and are great novels to read. That is why we will be looking at 16 magical books for adults to read!
The first thing that comes to mind is fantasy novels. But they aren’t always magical or resemble fairytales. Tress of the Emerald Sea
As a huge Brandon Sanderson fan, I am amazed that I haven’t heard of Tress of the Emerald Sea. Now that I know it exists, I will be going out of my way to read it. Sanderson is one of my favorite authors because his characters, world-building, and magic systems are one of a kind and the attention to detail make it worth reading.
Piranesi
There are many amazing books out there that we never get around to reading. Luckily, I was able to read Piranesi by Susanna Clarke and I was taken back at how amazing this novel was. This novel made me a fan of Clarke and I loved the world building and elements of magic in this novel and will be reading more books by here in the near future.
The Night Circus

A fantasy novel and that is magical and one of the best escapism novels out there in my opinion is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It is beautifully written and everything about it is perfect. And I’ve enjoyed ever Morgenstern novel I have read so you already know she is a master at her craft.
The Winternight Trilogy
Reading novels that you are unfamiliar with that you came across by chance is always risky. But sometimes they pay off wonderfully. That was what happened with me and The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. This was my first real exposure to Russian folklore and Arden made this series impossible to put down and a trilogy that I revisit often.
Conclusion
My favorite thing about this list is that many of these novels aren’t ones that many people think of off the top of their head. They aren’t as well-known as say Harry Potter but they are novels that will stay with you for a long time. What did you think of this list of 16 magical books for adults to read? I’m starting to get into Brandon Sanderson, and this is the second time someone has recommended Tress of the Emerald Sea. I am adding it to my TBR now.
Alice Hoffman’s books give me this feeling. And John Connolly’s The Book of Lost Thing s and The Land of Lost Things.
