Books have played an important part in many of our lives and it is hard to imagine our live without them. There are some books that have resonated with us more than others and have had a life-long impact. That is why we will be looking at books that changed our lives today!
I can remember the novel that got me into reading and I know that is true for millions of readers around the world. Whether you got into reading as a kid, teenager, or an adult, some books stay with us forever.
But that isn’t the only way a book can change our life. Sometimes, we come across a book that makes us rethink of how we viewed the world. These books can be a self-help book or a novel that shows us a different viewpoint that we didn’t consider or was something that we knew was out there.
There are thousands of books like these and everyone’s list of books that changed their lives is going to be different. But we have seen that many lists tend to have a lot of the same books. You can see the full list below!
Books That Changed Our Lives
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
- 1984 by George Orwell
- The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J. K. Rowling
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
It has become a yearly tradition for me to read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Every time I read this novel, I take something new from it. This novel has sold over 150 million novels and has stayed relevant ever since former president Bill Clinton was photographed with the novel in the 1990s.
Most people can remember the book that started their love of reading and for me, it was To Kill a Mockingbird. I remember reading this novel for class in high school and I couldn’t stop myself from reading ahead of the assigned reading.
This is considered one of the best (if not the best) novels ever written and I agree with that statement. The story behind To Kill a Mockingbird is fascinating and one that is worth checking out. This was Lee’s only novel for most of her life and a sequel was released after Harper Lee passed away and we could have done without it.
While many novels resonate with people on a personal level, 1984 was a novel that imagined a future where the government would be inside people’s homes and watched everything you did and controlled the flow of information people were exposed to.
As technology has developed over the decades, this novel has seen many of its predictions coming true. Orwell’s novel served as a warning and we are watching many more predictions coming true in real time.
While growing up, I was always hesitant to get into the Harry Potter novels because of the size of some of the books. But they were everywhere and you couldn’t avoid the books no matter where you went. Every time a new Harry Potter book was released, every bookstore and retail store had tons of copies of the novel on display near the entrance.
I know many people that grew up with the Harry Potter novels and the movies. This series was the one that got many people into reading and the fact that Harry Potter is still very popular shows how strongly this series has resonated with a generation.
That is why that so many people have found it hard to give up the Harry Potter novels even with all the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling. This is one series that has survived every controversy and it’s because these novels are tied to many people’s childhoods. They grew up with the books and with Harry Potter on the big screen.
Conclusion
Everyone has a story about the book that changed their life and we can relate to that because it is true for most readers. Whether it is a novel that started your love for reading or one that changed your life, this is a common occurrence.
