Everything You Need to Know About the Third Empyrean Book

The recent popularity of the Empyrean books by Rebecca Yarros has flipped the romance fantasy genre upside down. Fans want to know when the third Empyrean book will be released. We have you covered with the latest news regarding the novel and when it may be released!

The Empyrean series starts off with Fourth Wing, released in 2023. The novel follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail as she is forced to enter the war college. Violet is frail and has little training and as the daughter of the general, is targeted. She must overcome many trials and become a dragon rider or die.

Fourth Wing rose to popularity of the blue with the help of Tik Tok and Booktok. That helped it top The New York Times bestseller list. And seven months later, the sequel Iron Flame followed and also topped the charts. It also became the fastest selling fantasy novel of all time.

Third Empyrean Book Release Date

The success of Fourth Wing led to Yarros also releasing Iron Flame in 2023. But the third novel in the series won’t be following the same fate. In fact, it will be taking longer because of Yarros’ health. She has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition that her protagonist Violet also has. But she has a release date in mind.

“I’m respecting my limitations and taking [things] a bit slower so that I can be healthy through all of it,” she says. “So it’s going to be a little bit slower. But I have a release date, I just can’t tell you yet.”

Interestingly enough, there was a release date for the third Empyrean book. The release date that was initially given was December 2024. But that may have been pushed back due to Yarros’ health. Or the publication didn’t want it to be public knowledge until they confirmed it.

Empyrean Book Three Title

Many fans are hoping it comes on in December 2024 but it will be a few months until we can know for sure. No title has been given for the third book but we do believe Yarros has something in mind. Fans are speculating that it may either be Violet’s second signet or something to do with Andarna, her second dragon.

Waiting for The Third Novel

The wait from the first and the second was only seven months. That was because of the unexpected success of Fourth Wing and because Yarros already had the second book completed. She said that she wrote the first and second book continuously during COVID, not taking a break.

But now she is writing slower as the writing process has taken its toll on her. “I will tell you that the speed at which I wrote Fourth Wing, in between I wrote In the Likely Event, and then I wrote Iron Flame happened so quickly in the middle of touring, in the middle of everything, that it was really hard on my body,” said Yarros.

The good news is that there is a release date. We just have to be patient but most likely, it will be either December 2024 or early 2025. And we’ll keep you updated on the latest news as soon as we find out.
