Actor Henry Cavill is a big fan of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive series and even called Sanderson to inquire about playing Kaladin in the upcoming Stormlight Archive adaptation.

Cavill has made a name for himself over the years playing popular comic book and fantasy novels characters such as Superman and The Witcher. And if it was up to Cavill, he would also play Kaladin and called up Sanderson to inquire about the role.

In an interview, Sanderson said that he got an unexpected call from Henry Cavill asking about playing Kaladin in the future adaptation of the novels. Unfortunately for Cavill, Sanderson had to tell him that he wouldn’t be the best fit, something Cavill knew before he called Sanderson.

“When Henry Cavill called me and was like: ‘I’m too old for Kaladin, aren’t I?’” Sanderson recalls. “I’m like: ‘Yes, and he’s also Asian.’”

Getting a call out of the blue by Henry Cavill must be an amazing feeling. Even though both parties knew that Cavill wouldn’t be the best person to play Kaladin, having that conversation taking place is amazing. Finding out that one of the most famous actors is a fan of your work is incredible.

“He had read the books and knew that it just wouldn’t work, but it was kind of heartbreaking when he called me,” Sanderson said. “He was like: ‘Man, I don’t think I can be Kaladin, can I?’ And I was like: ‘No, I don’t think you can be.’”

Even though Cavill can’t play Kaladin, maybe he can play one of the other characters in the novel. There are a bunch of characters that he would be amazing for and hopefully he doesn’t mind not being the protagonist.

This call will most likely lead to Sanderson and Cavill collaborating in the future. “I’m sure I’ll work with Henry on something at some point,” says Sanderson. “He’s a cool guy, and an uber nerd, and he makes cool stuff.”
