We are more than three months into the year and the days have been flying by. Today, I will be discussing the books I read in March. Keep reading to find out what I read and my thoughts on these books!

In March, I only read five books and have been in a reading slump as of lately. I did read a couple of books on my reading list which I am happy about. Most of the books I read were older books with the exception of Iron Flame. You can see the full list below!

Books I Read in March

Iron Flame

After reading Fourth Wing, I knew I had to read Iron Flame, the second book in the Empyrean series by Rebecca Yarros. And while it wasn’t as good as Fourth Wing, I still enjoyed it. Reading a five-book series is interesting because books like Iron Flame drag out some plotlines and the pacing suffered as a result.

romantasy novels
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

There are a lot of stuff going on in the novel and because it is a romantasy novel, a lot of stuff felt like it was pushed to the side. I do hope the third novel does a better job balancing these things but I don’t think it will because it is still a middle novel. The overarching storyline will be dragged out so it meets the five-book limit which in hindsight should not have been put in place.

The Long Goodbye

I love hardboiled fiction novels and found myself reading The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler last month. Even in the hardboiled genre that is defined by blood and violence, Chandler stands out with his storytelling. With The Long Goodbye, you can feel the weight of the novel and what it meant to Chandler. And while it may not be his best novel, I did enjoy it a lot.

Ngaio Marsh Mysteries

Like many fans of mystery novels, I grew up reading Agatha Christie books. But she is one of the many great mystery authors out there. Another author that was the face of the golden age of mystery is Ngaio Marsh. After reading two of her novel, I can see exactly why. Her murder mysteries are great contrast to Christie’s as she sets up the scenes of the murder and as a reader, you will still get the murderer wrong more often than not.

Travels with Charley

I decided to read a travel book and the one I opted for was Travels with Charley: In Search of America by John Steinbeck. It was enjoyable reading about Steinbeck’s roadtrip across the United States and his commentary throughout the trip. This is not my usual reading preference but I enjoyed every second of it.

Conclusion

These are the five books that I read in March. There was no real preference but I did end up leaning towards older books. How was your March reading? How many books have you read from my list? Let us know in the comments below!
