February was an okay month for me when it came to reading books. Some books I couldn’t put down and then there were books that trudged through. Keep reading to find out all the books I read in February 2024 and what I thought of them!
As usual, my list of books takes me all over the world and experience many cultures. That hasn’t specifically been a focus but I have been more open towards books that take place in other places besides where I live. You can see the full list below!
Books I Read in February 2024
- The Honjin Murders (Detective Kosuke Kindaichi, #1) by Seishi Yokomizo
- Our Share of Night by Mariana Enríquez
- Stay True: A Memoir by Hua Hsu
- The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
- Death and the Dancing Footman (Roderick Alleyn #11) by Ngaio Marsh
- Kagen the Damned (Kagen the Damned, #1) by Jonathan Maberry
The Honjin Murders

The first novel I read this month was a classic Japanese novel The Honjin Murders. It is a murder room mystery novel that is and was popular in Japan. The novel was originally published in 1946 but was only translated to English in 2019. I have enjoyed all of these murder room mystery novels and this was one of the best yet.
Our Share of Night by Mariana Enríquez
I don’t typically read too many horror novels because they can be cliché. But some authors can write an amazing horror novel and that is true for Our Share of Night by Mariana Enríquez. It is over 500 pages and tells the story about a father and son as they set out on a journey. The father is part of a cult and wants to protect his son from the same fate no matter the cost.
The Time Machine
You hear a lot about H. G. Wells and his novels but reading them is a whole different experience. The Time Machine is the first novel to mention the idea of time travel using a chair. But the novel itself is weird. The chair doesn’t actually teleport but instead goes really fast, causing time travel. And the ideas this novel has are wild, even for the 1890’s.
Death and the Dancing Footman
Lastly, I want to talk about Death and the Dancing Footman by Ngaio Marsh. I had never read a novel by Marsh before and finally corrected that mistake. And boy have I missed out on some amazing works of literature.
Marsh’s characters are chaotic and I love it. Her characters make the novel come to life but with so many characters, it took a while getting used to them. The murder itself is set up nicely as it happens during the novel and you are provided with everyone’s whereabouts as well as motive. I will be reading more of Marsh’s novels in the near future.
Conclusion
These are the book I read in February 2024. Honestly, it was a good batch of books but I wish I read a couple more. March is off to a good start and I hope I will be able to get more reading done this month. Happy reading!
