The co-winners of the Pulitzer Prize Award this year are Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and Trust by Hernan Diaz. One tackles opioid addiction while the other focuses on the 1929 financial stock market crash. Writing about these topics is not easy and a lot of research goes into it. And to write amazing stories that let us experience these moments deserves recognition. 

Kirkus Review’s 2022 Young Readers’ Literature Prize 

Himawari House by Harmony Becker is a graphic novel that won Kirkus Review’s 2022 Young Readers’ Literature Prize. It tells the story of Nao who visits Japan during a gap year to get in touch with her Japanese heritage but struggles to do that once she arrives there. Instead, she meets strangers who are on their own journey and grasp with love, friendship, and healing.  

Carol Shields Prize for Fiction 

The winner of the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction – an inaugural award that is given to an English-language fiction by an American or Canadian woman or non-binary writer was When We Were Sisters. Fatimah Asghar also received $150,000 for winning. The novel is about three Muslim American siblings that have to raise each other after the unexpected deaths of their parents.  

2022 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction 

Ling Ma’s Bliss Montage was the 2022 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. The novel tackles issues such as loss, love, motherhood, and friendship. She also wrote the popular novel Severance which is centered around a global pandemic.  

2022 National Book Award for Fiction 

The Rabbit Hutch was the 2022 National Book Award for Fiction which is centered around a midwestern town and its destruction. Gunty’s amazing characterization skills have made her a favorite of many.
