The Boston Public Library has released its list of the most checked out books in 2022. The list id dominated by fiction and shows just what the city of Boston likes to read. Library patrons checked out many books and we have the data to see which books were among the favorites.

This list includes both print and digital copies instead of separating the two like the New York Public Library did.

Boston Public Library’s Most Borrowed Books of 2022

“The most borrowed titles of 2022 cover a broad variety of genres, with both romance and science fiction represented this year,” Melissa Andrews said, the library’s chief of collection management. “This is a notable change from the memoirs and thrillers that have been most popular over the last few years. Social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have become an important place for readers to discover, share, and amplify titles and authors — and a place where those readers are re-discovering libraries as a free and accessible way to seek out these trending reads.”

You can see the Boston Public Library’s ten most checked out books of 2022 below!

Social Media Plays a Big Part

Just as Andrews said in her statement, many of these books have been recommended by social media websites like TikTok and Instagram. Books like The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is proof of that. I am surprised that Colleen Hoover didn’t make the list.
