I have been writing on Books of Brilliance for over 3 years now and it has been an amazing journey. I never thought I would be running this website years later, covering books and book related news. But now, I will be taking this website in a new direction and the changes will be noticeable in the coming weeks.
When I first started Books of Brilliance, it was to share my love of the latest book I read. A year before I started the website, I read over a 100 books that year and I wanted to recommend those books to other people. And thus started Books of Brilliance.
Since then, I learned a lot about running a website and it is no easy work. But slowly over time, I found out what works and what doesn’t. It is also important to mention that I majored in journalism and decided to combine my love of writing and reading on this website. That led to me covering book related news and trying to make my website news friendly.
But now, I will be mostly hanging up my news badge. The recent changes to Google have made it impossible to run my website as I did previously and it has left me frustrated and angry. No longer was my website showing up on Google, Google News, and Discover. They tell you to do all these things but ultimately, they only care about the powerful media companies.
Being a blogger in this day and age is frustrating and when Google itself wants to make it impossible to reach an audience, then you are doomed. This led to me not wanting to write for the past couple of months and a lot of soul searching. Even now, I am furious with Google but this is what these big companies do. They don’t care about the everyday person.
With that rant over, I can now talk about what this website will look like. Going forward, I will be writing in the first person voice and will be sharing my opinions and thoughts on things instead of just giving the usual news update. A big reason for this is that I have no motivation to do news related pieces anymore.
Instead, I want this website to be a love letter to books. My love of books is as strong as ever and I can’t wait to share all the books I have been reading this year. I will have to see what to do with my book format and whether or not to change it or leave it as it is. For book listicles, I do think I will keep them but approach them in a different way so there will be far and few in between.
Just like a phoenix, this website is going to rise back from ashes and be reborn. I won’t let Google stop me from writing and after the past few months, I feel reinvigorated and can’t wait to get back to writing about books again!
