Must Reads

The Odyssey and Iliad by Homer are two of the best works of fiction and rightfully deserve to make the top ten. But Homer isn’t the only author to make the list twice. Madeline Miller also has two books on the list with Circe and The Song of Achilles.

A book that had to make this list is the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. It is a great series that is still going strong as Riordan plans to continue the series. Many children learn about Greek mythology for the first time by reading these books.

Two books that I wanted to discuss were Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman and The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. Gaiman is a wonderful writer and his storytelling of Norse mythology is a must read if you are a fan of mythology.

And can we just talk about Atwood and how she has books in many best books of all time list. Not only does she have one of the best works of fiction in The Handmaid’s Tale, but she is also an amazing writer that tries new genres and makes it look effortless. Some authors are gifted and above them is Margaret Atwood.

This list is based on fiction, which of course mythology is fiction. However if you want a good understanding of mythology, one must read Joseph Campbell.
