While browsing the internet, I came across a listicle that horrified me. GQ released a list of 20 books that you don’t have to read and let’s just say, it is a pretty controversial list. Keep reading to find out which 20 books you don’t have to read according to GQ!
Normally, we look at lists of books that people should read. But after seeing this list, we had to discuss it. There are too many classics on this list that should not be on it. This list feels like it was made for shock value and if that was the case, then they succeeded. You can see the full list below!
20 Books You Don’t Have to Read According to GQ
A Horrible list by GQ
You know a list is bad when only five books in you already think it is horrible. There is no reason to have The Catcher In The Rye By J. D. Salinger, The Old Man And The Sea By Ernest Hemingway, and The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho as three of your first five picks. That already makes me hate this list.
The list goes on to get worse by including Cormac McCarthy, Mark Twain, and Bram Stoker on the list. But even with all those horrible picks, the one that irritates me the most is the inclusion of The Lord Of The Rings By J. R. R. Tolkien. Not only is the one of the greatest fantasy novels of all time, it is a great novel.
This may be the worst list I’ve come across in a long time. I do not agree with this list of the 20 books you don’t have to read according to GQ. It must have been made as a joke. Nothing else makes sense. It is a good thing GQ isn’t a book expert or this would have made me revoke their credentials.
