For this list, we visited novels that were selected as winners in 2018. And while it has been five years since these novels won the awards, they are still not that well known. Part of that reason is that there are just too many new books being released every year.

Novels To Check Out

The first novel that jumps out to us on the list is Bluebird, Bluebird by Attica Locke. It won the Anthony Award for Best Novel and the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2018. Protagonist Darren Matthews, an African-American Texas Ranger investigates the death of another African-American, a lawyer from Chicago that happened in his town of Lark.

The next novel that drew our attention was The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin. When a novel wins both the Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Nebula Award for Best Novel, then it is a must read. Many of you may recognize N. K. Jemisin since has won this award multiple times and has written two popular fantasy novels The Fifth Season and The Obelisk Gate.

These are the 6 award winning novels that you should read. While they may be more than a half a decade old, they will feel like new novels. There are many places to look for your next amazing read!
