Today, we will be reviewing the second novel in the Thieves duology, Thick as Thieves by M. J. Kuhn. After the mess in the first novel, it is up to Ryia to make amends and she won’t be able to do it alone. Thick as Thieves Summary ( Spoiler’s Ahead for Book One)
Ryia Cautella and her crew of thieves have pulled off an impossible heist. They have stolen a powerful tool from the Guildmaster but it ends up in the hands of Callum Clem, the leader of the Saints. He wants to use the power of the tool to become the next king and it is up to Ryia and her friends to stop him.
The group is separated across the Kingdoms. Some of them are being used as pawns by Callum while the others try to figure out who has the tool and how to locate them. With the future of all the kingdoms at stake, Ryia and her friends have to stop their former leader and make amends before it is too late.
Commentary
Thick as Thieves comes out on July 25th. I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of the novel and I enjoyed every second of it. The writing is brilliant and the plot twists will keep you hooked. Ryia is a fun and witty character but you get to see her more vulnerable side in this book.
The best comparison to this novel is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo as it also has a crew of thieves, magic, and a heist. This is a subgenre that I enjoy and love what it has to offer. Kuhn is a great writer and I couldn’t put either of the books in the genre down even if I wanted to.
Conclusion
One of the reasons why I enjoy reading is coming across books like these and getting immersed in the author’s world building. If you enjoyed Six of Crows and wished Leigh Bardugo focused on that part in her books, then you will love this book and the Thieves series!
