The Witcher Executive Defends Against Claims That They Didn’t Read the Books

The Witcher executive producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach defended a fan’s criticism that his team didn’t read the books.

Witcher Executive Claps Back Against Online Critic That Says They Didn’t Read the Books

In a response on Twitter, Grillo-Marxuach replied to a fan “For those who claim that we don’t read or respect the books, the writers’ draft of The Witcher [Season 3 Episode 6] absolutely began with Dijkstra holding Geralt at knife point as he pissed into a plant,” Grillo-Marxuach said. “I have the pages to prove it.”

Controversy has surrounded the popular Netflix show when former writer Beau DeMayo came out and said that some of the writers of the show “actively mocked” the source material.

Season two of the show deviated from the books and fans (and writers) were not happy. Things went from bad to worse when lead actor Henry Cavill decided to leave after wrapping up season three.

While Grillo-Marxuach may have tried to prove the online critic wrong, he does not actually succeed. In the books, the scene is actually a little different, showcasing that the show deviates from the books.

Henry Cavill Leaving The Witcher

With season 3 done, everyone is waiting to see what happens next. Cavill will not be on the show anymore and many believe it is because of his love for the source material and the show going in a different direction. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said.

“In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Conclusion

With everyone that has happened so far, fans are worried about the future of the show. And they have been calling out the writers and the executive producers of the show. And without Cavill on the show anymore, nobody knows what to expect.
