Vice president Kamala Harris has become a household name for becoming the vice president when President Joe Biden was elected in 2020. When she isn’t working, Harris can be found reading. We decided to look at Kamala Harris’ Five Favorite Books and see what she enjoys reading.
Harris is the first female vice president as well as the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history. She was also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. Besides being the vice president, Harris was previously an attorney and even an author.

In fact, she is the author of two #1 New York Times bestselling books. She wrote The Truths we Hold and wrote an illustrated children’s book titled Superheroes Are Everywhere. Her love of books is evident throughout her career and we now know five of her favorite books that you can see below!
Kamala Harris’ Five Favorite Books
- Native Son by Richard Wright
- The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
- The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
- Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Powerful Classics
This is a really good list of five books. It contains classics such as Native Son by Richard Wright, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Harris’ favorite books have influenced her own books and it is easy to see how.
Besides the classics, Harris also has two great books to close out her top five. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan are two great novels that are must reads.
All of Harris’ selections are good reads and you can’t go wrong with any of them. I imagine these books were selected partly because of who Harris is. Normally, most lists include a bunch of lesser-known books but that isn’t the case here. She obviously put a lot of thought into the list knowing her selection would be held to a higher standard because she is the vice president after all.
