Harry Potter is one of the most successful movie franchises and if it is up to Warner Bros Discovery, it might be making a return in the near future.
Harry Potter Reboot
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has said that he will focus on franchises and two that come to mind were the Superman and Harry Potter franchise.
“We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years,” said Zaslav. “We haven’t done a Harry Potter in 15 years. The DC movies and the Harry Potter movies provided a lot of the profits for Warner Bros. … over the past 25 years.”
Zaslav was clear that money was on his mind when it came these franchises. With the Harry Potter movies coming to a conclusion over a decade ago, now is a good time to start a reboot. But it should not be the same story. Instead, we should get a story with fresh characters and a different set of protagonists.
Will Rowling Sign Off on It?
Rowling will be consulted about the Harry Potter movies and she will have to sign off on whatever Warner Bros. Discovery decides to do. By retelling the same story, many fans might think that it is too soon and not tune in.
The original eight Harry Potter movies films were released 2001-2011 and grossed $7.7 billion globally. Following that, the Fantastic Beasts movies were released and have not been able to keep the success going. With two more movies planned, the studio is not sure if they will release them or start anew.
You might think this is wishful thinking but it sounds like there has been some serious discussion. Zaslav brought this idea up at an investor’s meeting as a real possibility.
Rowling is allegedly a billionaire even though she has denied being one and won’t be doing it just for the money. If she wants to revisit the Harry Potter world, she can do just that by letting Warner Bros. Discovery reboot the franchise. We won’t find out for a while whether this happens but knowing that it may happens makes the future a little bit brighter.
