J. K. Rowling Clarifies Why She Wasn’t at the Harry Potter Reunion

J.K Rowling clears the air as to why she wasn’t at HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts special. 

Rowling Says She Didn’t Want To Be A Part of the Reunion

The author of the best-selling Harry Potter series clarified that she didn’t want to be a part of that on an online radio interview. The reason she says is because they weren’t really about the books. 

“I was asked to be on that, and I decided I didn’t want to do it,” said Rowling. “I thought it was about the films more than the books, quite rightly. That was what the anniversary was about.”

Did Rowling Play a Big Part in Making the Movies?

That is true but even so, those movies couldn’t have been made without her books. Most of the stuff was based on her writing even though some of it was changed to fit the movie format. 

A quick search shows that Rowling was heavily included in the direction of the movies. That included the cast of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermoine Granger. Rowling was often seen talking to them on the set in the early years. 

Rowling May have chosen not to go so it wouldn’t be awkward. The cast members have gone online and disagreed with Rowling’s transphonic marks publically. That would have been one awkward reunion if Rowling did go.

Rowling CHOSE Not to GO

There have been rumors that Rowling was not invited. According to Rowling, she was invited to attend the reunion. 

“No one said ‘don’t come,” said Rowling. “I was asked to do it and I decided not to.”

That doesn’t mean that Rowling isn’t friends with some of the cast members. When asked if she is keeps in touch with the actors of the franchise, she replied “Yes, I do. I mean, some more than others but that was always the case. You know, some I knew better than others.”

Conclusion

What do you make of Rowling’s comments on the issue? Not seeing Rowling in the 20^th year reunion anniversary is weird but probably for the best.
