Ian Fleming first novel Casino Royale is the book that started the James Bond adventures that have become legendary. Bond has become an icon throughout the decades and the legend is still growing with more movies. Find out why you should read this James Bond novel!
Summary: Casino Royale
James Bond, a secret Service agent 007 of the British Secret Service, is chosen to play a high-stakes baccarat game against Le Chiffre, a criminal that is currently in need of money. Chiffre plans to use the winnings to fund his criminal empire. It is up to James Bond to prevent that from happening.
But trouble arises as Bond lets his guard down. Against all odds, James Bond will have to stop Le Chiffre no matter the cost. But how far will the 007 agent be pushed and how much can he take?
As you can probably tell from the summary above, the novel is short. It takes about two days of reading to finish it – one if you really want to reach the end. But that doesn’t mean that the novel isn’t good or worth skipping. Flemmings’ character description and writing style make him a great writer.
To understand why James Bonds became a world phenomenon, you have to understand Fleming. He based a lot of the novel on his wartime experience, old friends, and his personal taste. Who else can make being a 007 agent whose life is always in danger so much fun?
Even today, you won’t find many novels like the James Bonds books. And yes, there have been many books that followed a similar trajectory but they didn’t have personal experience to make it as good as Flemings’ novels. I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale and the other books in the James Bond world and would definitely recommend everyone to give it a read.
