Daily Prompt: What’s More Important in a Career? Reward or Recognition

Today I will be answering the daily prompt “What’s more important in a career? Reward or recognition?” I thought it was a thought provoking question where the answer came to me pretty fast

Reward or Recognition?

In a career, the most important thing is to be happy. Everything else is a plus. Getting paid to do what you love is the reward itself. Recognition just means that a lot of people recognize whatever it is you did. But people get “recognized” for things all the time. So what does that really mean?

I would choose neither but that is just me. I know others will choose one or the other because as Creed Bratton from The Office once said “If I can’t scuba then what’s this all been about? What am I working towards?” A great moment that is funny but says a lot. People are goal oriented and are usually working towards something. A better pay, recognition, a higher position, etc.

That is all great and I am not above it but I if I had to choose, I would prefer just to do something I love. What is more important in a career for you? Reward or Recognition?

It’s important that you enjoy what you do. You will only excel if you take pleasure in what you do. And practice makes perfect. In my opinion both reward and recognition are important. It gives a feeling of satisfaction which is necessary for better productivity.

I agree with you– I just want to be happy with my career. I guess I also want to make a positive difference for others, but I don’t think that falls in line with reward or recognition necessarily. It’s an interesting question!

Yea a lot of these things are connected in a way. Making a difference is going to lead to recognition which can inspire others
